You mean, using the same methods for bootloader application etc., it
consistently fails to boot from some drives? I have two drives, one works,
one doesn't. I thought it was related to the case, but then I found that I
was using different versions of LILO to try, so now I'm not sure.

This BIOS can't boot off of _any_ USB drive. IDE, CD, or floppy are my
choices. I'm hoping I can load the kernel off of hda (XP hard drive) or hdb
(CD) then do the rest from sda (USB drive).
