For a quick test I just copied a 7401600 byte file from CD (Joliet UCS level
3, Rock Ridge V1, 2048 block size) to an ext3 formatted (4096 block size,
32768 blocks per group, 16384 inodes per group, 512 inode blocks per group)
device... as repoted by "isoinfo -d -i" and "dumpe2fs -h".

du file on the mounted CD reports 7229 and on disk 7244, a difference of 15K
(0.2075% increase).

just grabbed another one, a 10883072 byte file reports 10628 on CD and 10644
on disk, a difference of 16K (0.1505% increase)

On the smallest file I could find on this CD, 2281790 bytes, du reports 2229
on CD and 2236 on disk, 7K (0.3140% increase).

To lose 1.9 megs (>47%) in a single file with any "sane" block size seems...
extreme. Are you going to report the filesystem type and attributes, and
and how you are generating your numbers (ls -l, du options, etc). We might
be able to help you figure it out.
