I use www.surpasshosting.com for hosting. It is linux based so the file
structure is understandable. I buy my domains from 1and1 - I used to use
godaddy but their program is much harder to navigate. Surpasshosting uses
cpanel cms and allows you to create websites with php and mysql. Shared
hosting starts at $6/month. I use the deluxe plan at $100/year for 400GB
disc space and 4000GB bandwidth. Their domains are more expensive but you
can use domains bought elsewhere. You can split the domains too.
