Not that I am aware of ;- which doesn't mean anything because I am no expert.
Thinking out loud - Grub seems to be installed in the MBR so it seems
to be a catch22. To bypass the boot manager using VMWare sounds like
more than just a configuration but the vmware forums are usually pretty
quick to answer stuff like that.
For my part, I disabled the timeout. and made XP the default. I'd have
to physically up arrow twice and hit enter to make a wrong choice.
Of course if there is a way, please share because I am doing the same
thing next week.
