Might "locate firefox-bin | xargs file" say?
eben@pc:~$ locate firefox-bin | xargs file
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/firefox-bin: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel
80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.0, dynamically linked (uses
shared libs), stripped
/opt/firefox/firefox-bin: ELF 32-bit LSB executable, Intel
80386, version 1 (SYSV), for GNU/Linux 2.2.5, dynamically linked (uses
shared libs), stripped
I think one in /usr starts the one in /opt:
eben@pc:~$ locate firefox-bin | xargs ls -l
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 9934760 Apr 26 2006 /opt/firefox/firefox-bin
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 66028 Apr 18 2006 /usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/firefox-bin
