You can turn on with -v or -vv to turn on debug.

They may very well block all lower ports except 80, 25, 110 as some sort of
unusual solution.

Call someone who can sit on the other end and see your request arrive, or not.
Then you'll see how it breaks. You can always specify a different port
with -p (like 81, 2222 or whatever) for your remote access.
