This is not to discourage you and I do _not_ speak from experience here but
from what I've read X (especially since it has been modularized) is one of
the toughest things, if not the hardest, to build. Apparently there is no
clear documentation describing what versions of the different parts of X
play nicely with each other. Check out the Xorg list archives for more info.
Many X developers do not advise non-distro-packagers to attempt it. Just a
heads up before you spend ages working on this.

Feisty (which includes Xorg 7.2) is only an $(apt-get update && apt-get
dist-upgrade) away.
