Tell you the truth, I haven't been paying very close attention to this
thread, so I feel like I'm coming in half way through it. Are you using
the binary driver? If so, nvidia warns that you may have to tweak your
installation of the drivers on a kernel upgrade. I forget what they
call it, but the module or whatever it is that links the driver to the
kernel headers or whatever needs to match the version of the kernel and
the version of the driver. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling
the binary package? As long as you have the correct kernel headers and
source installed, the nvidia driver installer should be able to find
what it needs to compile everything else. That's the only way I've been
able to get mine to install anyway. If this doesn't apply to your
problem, please disregard.
