I'm not so convinced. Keep in mind, POV-Ray can probably do this, but
what's the interface to the designer or engineer? Free form "clay" is
a nice approach. In machining, it's called subtraction, like material
subtraction. Start with a billet, end up with a part. That's the
crude form anyway.
I tried to get BRL working. I'm not giving up, but it does show the
lackluster of typical government work.
