Well, getting her to express a preference on _anything_ is like pulling
teeth. But regardless, the only computer experience she has is maybe an
hour of handholding in MacOS (pretty much only in Eudora), so there is no
basis for comparison. I've used Gnome a bit, but mostly "no environment",
fvwm2 on X. Given the choice of KDE or Gnome, I'd go with the devil I know.
A minimal window manager is nice in a geeky way, but might be a PITA to set
up.

Is there a way in Gnome, to lock down the settings so they don't
accidentally get changed? Or even better, have a "Theme" thing like XP?

Debian (actually Ubuntu) and I don't get along, philosophical differences
mainly. It wants things done one way, and gosh darn it, I don't feel like
doing it that way, so it hoses my system out of spite. That sort of thing.
