Like this?

=CELL("contents"; "ADDRESS(2;23;2)")

That still gets me "#REF!". I think what it's doing is interpreting
ADDRESS(2;23;2) as a string, not evaluating it and taking the return value.

The mnky gibbering and screeching used to keep me up at night, although
