I haven't used Debian in a while (I use ArchLinux on my main machine now), but I assume you are using Ubuntu, so the following may be relevant for you:

If you are using Debian, it looks like you just download the Deb package from Adobe and install it with dpkg as in the following instructions:

If you are using Debian, you might want to check to see if the non-free and multimedia repos are in your /etc/apt/sources.list file, and if not add them (see google for howtos and possible keys you may need), because it's possible adobe reader is in one of those. It's usually better to install packages thru the repos rather than downloading a deb pkg.
