OK, got lots of good info here... Let me give a bit more info on this HD layout
/dev/sda1 = Root and all directories but home for UBUNTU Size = 9.31
/dev/sda2 = extended Size = 172.31G
/dev/sda5 = linux swap Size = 1.86G
/dev/sda6 = Home directories for UBUNTU Size = 86.62
/dev/sda7 = All Kubuntu Stuff from root/boot to home. This was a test.
Unallocated = 291.99G

So windows still wants to be the first directory. I guess what I will do then
is just leave my home directory as is (/dev/sda6) maybe move it info the
disk a bit and create me a directory for win where /sda1 is and put it there
then I will just go in and re-install Ubuntu, or perhaps I will move what is in
sda1 to another directory install windows, then move all of my linux direct-
ories to where I want them, then just go in and re-install Ubuntu, I probably
need to do it anyway, as the present stuff in sda1 was a 9.04 install which
here a few weeks ago got upgraded to 9.10, I am never happy with these
"upgrades" from one release to another, always seems like it is better to
just go back in and re-install the whole thing when you have a chance.

So gathering all I have seen here, this is the plan.
1. I will move all of my linux stuff up into the unallocated area,
2. Create a ntfs partition for windows at sda1.
3. Install windows, test it out,
4. Move my linux partitions where I want them.
5. Do a clean reinstall of Ubuntu 9.10.
6. Be done with it. (I hope)

Since my home directories are a separate partition I should not have any
trouble there, I always keep the home/user_stuff on a separate partition
because I am always buggering something in the root/boot/other_directories
area when I start playing with settings.

I notice that Ubuntu does a good job of setting up grub to handle the windows
booting, in the past, indeed my desktop machine still has a windows vista par-
tition on it, it is SuSE 11.1 when I installed SuSE on it, the
installer found the
windows partition, stuck it in the grub list and all works just fine,
I have to use
it maybe once or twice a year for something that I just can not resolve other
wise. I have done several Ubuntu installs on windows boxen and it always did
a nice job adding windows to the grub menu, and I never had any issues with
windows booting. Hope this is the same. I hope that the USB scope manufac-
turer does not take too long to get a Linux GUI out, I am going with a small
MSO from Link Instruments http://www.linkinstruments.com.

I wanted to go with the BitScope, and after I get some cash flow I may do so,
BitScope does provide a Linux GUI for their product, but the scope box needs
a separate power supply. There is some good logic for that but in my case it
is a issue because a lot of times I do not have a place to plug in. I
am going to
use it with a netbook to replace a very large old CRT type scope, for my field
work. The CRT scope is a loner and I plan to return it as soon as I get the new
one on line.

If you all see any issues with my plan above please holler...
