Um, it's a decent-ish web application. I use it from inside an irc
client, and I wager there are more linux clients than windows.

Twitter would be effective because usually you have it set up to send
an SMS to your phone. Email has no gurantee on delivery times, so
announcing last-minute "we're going to chilli's at park place" is rather
ineffective.

That said, we'll also mention it in the irc channel. But really, the set
of people that arn't going to the proper meeting, don't use twitter, and
don't use irc is exceptionally small. (I don't believe you even need a
twitter account to follow the RSS feed).
