It appears that the above info is talking about converting the video file
to a mpeg4 file on the fly and then sending the file. My video files are
ALREADY mpeg4 (mp4) files.
Prior to installing VLC on one client machine it would call quicktime
and stream the video, but with VLC this is not happening. Same goes
if I set mplayer up as the default.

When I select a file it ask if I want to open in VLC or save, if I tell it to
open, then it downloads and THEN opens the file in VLC. The browser
recognizes that it is a mpeg-4 file as it says so in the download screen.
