Today I installed Ubuntu 8.04 LTS onto a new system. (Twice actually, as
the first time it wouldn't take my password and I didn't want to hack it.)
After installation, I removed some cards (video & PCI->ATAPI) and added some
others (video [ATI Rage IIc] & wifi [Realtek RTL8180L]). Neither of them is
supported -- the system uses what I gather to be some default video driver,
and the wifi card is totally ignored (AFAICT). lspci and lshal list it, but
that's it.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Device/RTL8180L says "In Ubuntu
6.10 (Edgy Eft) it is supported out of the box with a open-source driver.
This driver supports ... WEP protected networks." Great, that's what I
have. How do I invoke that driver?
Normally, I'd configure my kernel to compile the needed drivers as modules.
Compile and go, no reboot necessary (usually). But, I'm trying to keep this
installation stock, so I'm at a loss as to how to proceed.
