I'm the proud(?) owner of a Powermac G4 Cube. I got it because it's
fanless, hence (with a SSD) completely silent, ideal for a media player
that'll live in my room. That, and it looks pretty. I figure if I can't do
what I want in MacOS (and I probably can't), I can put Debian on it.
But Apple seems to have gone out of their way to make it hard to make this
machine useful. I've already ordered most of the needed accessories; when I
go to change out the hard drive there's no telling how many screws I'll have
to remove. The "digital audio amplifier module" [1] is proving hard to find
however. It converts audio from digital (over USB) to analog (via a
headphone port) at 10W/channel. All I know is that it's powered by USB and
is probably smaller than a pack of cigarettes.
Does anyone know where I could find something -- anything -- that'll work?
I'm not brand conscious so any one is fine if it's a generic item.
