I sent a reply with part of my kernel konfig yesterday, but i think
it bounced as I forgot that majordomo thinks some words are list
commands (like con_fig without the _)... anyhoo...

It looks like netlink sockets are missing from yoru kernel. Here are
some things to check out under "Networking Options":

"Kernel/User netlink sockets"
"Routing Messages" - useful for monitoring the routes
"Equal cost multipath"
"Advanced Router"

If the options up there aren't enabled, enable them and rebuild the
kernel... if it still doesn't work email me the .config file and I'll
see if I can make a diff or a working one.
