Sorry, dude. I think this is a match you might not be able to win.
Unless you're a developer, going to "debug" won't help - you'll need the
debugger, which usually means you know how to develop wine (or are
trying to learn). As for the the MS media player, I've tried various
times to install it or get it running in my machine, and nothing doing.
The only fix I can even imagine is (are you ready?) creating a "fake
partition", which means a direc - err, "folder" with a bunch of other
"folders" familiar to MS programs (like Program Files and Windows), AND
sticking the necessary libraries, to which I have to say 1) good luck
and 2) but doesn't that count as a public health hazard?). Now, creating
the partition is actually pretty easy if you use something like
Codeweaver's version of Wine (http://www.codeweavers.com), which
autimatically creates one for you and sets up your wine config file.
Check it out.

Now, if you REEEEAAAALLLYYY want to dig arround for an answer (always a
worthy recourse, grasshoppah), check arround http://www.winehq.org for
an answer to your problem. They might have a couple of success stories.
If you get it, post it on the list (ie. your own), I know I'd like to
hear about it. Personally, I'd be interested in having the ability to
run .asf and .wma files on my system, if for nothing else than for shock
value!!

Good luck,

Norb
