I seem to be having trouble getting sound in Gnome (only xwindow i've

i have a soundblaster Live and have checked all connections to speakers
and PCI slot
went to HardDrake and ran the configuration tool and it plays the 8-bit
MIDI sound sample but i hear nothing recieving no errors (or least if
there logged i cant find them) XMMS plays CD's but i have no sound. made
sure wire was connected corretly from CDROM drive to soundcard but i
hear nothing. Made sure that both volumes on the XMMS and speakers are
turn up to a reasonable volume... wouldn't want to get the sound working
and blow out my ears and wake the nieghbors. Can anyone help please
your newest favorite linux newbie
