There are all sorts of alternative Top Level Domains out there.
The problem is, ICANN will not recognize them, or add them to the root dns
servers. ICANN = satan.

Basically, if you use one of these alternative roots you will have to edit
your resolv.conf to point to one of thier DNS servers before you can
resolve thier domains. Some of them are trying to persuade some of the
larger ISP's to add thier root servers, but they are still only slighty
recognized.

Currently, it's probably a bad idea to use your primary email address on
an alternate root. Could you imagine your grandparents trying to add
alternate dns servers in windows just to send you an email?
