Let me know if you'd like some information on the KDE desktop (www.kde.org)
and screenshots to round things out. Release 2.1 has been out for a while, and
it includes the KOffice group of applications, the Konqueror browser, KMail
e-mailer, and other goodies. Tell folks they can run more than one desktop
on their machine if they like. Can't do that with MS-Windows. Don't forget to
mention StarOffice from Sun (www.sun.com). Not everybody likes it, but it reads
and writes MS-Office files, runs on several platforms (Sun Solaris, Linux,
MS-Windows), and is a free download. Sun put it under the GPL last spring I
think. Corel is still offering WordPerfect 8 for Linux as a free download for
individual users. The code is Unix native, so it runs better than the
Wine-implemented WordPerfect 2000 for Linux.

Check out those sites and maybe you'd want to add links to your page.

Looks like you're writing for general home users, so play up the fact that
Linux runs fine on any Intel microprocessor (or clone) from the '386DX on up.
Folks can use "obsolete" hardware (not spend a fortune on new equipment), and
do all right. Great way to get started with computers, buy a '486 machine on the
cheap and run Linux. Good news for schools, churches, and anybody who doesn't
have gobs of money.

You need to mention that "Winmodems" and "controllerless modems" are not real
modems and won't work with Unix/Linux. Users need a hardware modem, and
listings of Linux-compatible peripherals and hardware are linked to the
www.linux.org website. Snoop around; you'll find it. A lot of modem vendors are
now listing "Linux compatible" on their products. I got mine at Best Buy for
something like $40.

Best wishes for building your site. More folks need to know how to make and
operate a Microsoft-Free-Zone.
