I use sendmail and an hourly cron job know the IP assign to "me" from twc.
In a text file called msg.txt:
I'm alive. look at my source from my IP
.
hourly cron job:
sendmail pwgrant@mailandnews.com <msg.txt
If IP changes, I wait for the top of the hour and check my email. This may
not be what you're trying accomplish, but I hope it helps.
