Earlier Viaos were the "standard issue" Slashdot laptop, but they were a
pain to set up, and not very durable. Two years later, we have given up
on them entirely.

Sager - http://www.sagernotebook.com/index.html - has about the cheapest
15" screen laptops around, and the only things that probably won't work
are the onboard NIC and modem. I have an older 2600-series Sager with a
14.1" screen I have worked so hard that some key letters and some of the
grey case coating have worn off, but it's still okay. Don't remember
what I paid for it, but it was like 20% less than equivalent from anyone
else.
