Re: [SLUG] file transfer

The best method is to setup a PPP session from one machine to the
other. This is arguably easier than SLIP/CSLIP these days.
File sharing is easiest with SAMBA (Windows) or NetATalk (Mac) over IP.
This is also the "easiest" method for any seasoned ISP veteran.

You can also use "minicom" and a serial "null modem cable", then use
sz/rz (zmodem) to upload/download files from within minicom.
This is the "easiest" method for any Procomm PC veterans from back in
the BBS days. Windows users can use Hyperterm.

A real Unix masochist would use UUCP. Newbies are hereby warned not to
go there :)
This is the "easiest" method for Peter Honeyman, David Novitz and
Brian E. Redman (collectively: HoneyDanBer ;)

If you're really twisted, you can use the "-m" option on GNU tar to
span multiple floppies (kind of like a multi-disk ZIP archive). I
don't believe the opensource "unzip" supports multi-volume archives.
You can use "arj" or "rar" to do this, however.

The replaceable media options are really a Zip, Jazz, or even CDR/CDRW.
