If your CD-R is SCSI, make sure you have loaded the appropriate SCSI
controller driver. E.g., "/sbin/modprobe aic7xxx" for most older
PCI Adaptecs.
If your CD-R is IDE, you need to use the IDE-SCSI emulation driver.
But you have to reserve the CD-R device at boot so the IDE-CD driver
doesn't load first. So you type "linux hdc=ide-scsi" at the LILO
prompt when booting (replace "hdc" with your CD-R device) and
"/sbin/modprobe ide-scsi" to load the IDE-SCSI emulation driver.
Now use "cdrecord -scanbus" to find out the proper device. Use that
device number when running cdrecord. See "man cdrecord" for help.

Well, I'm in Orlando and work in Melbourne so I'll try to make it
out there someday.
