I'd like to report that I was able to install Mandrake 8.0 PPC onto my
iMac Rev B after only reinstalling twice. For some reason the boot strap
didn't load correctly the first time and I reinstalled after futzing around
with
Open BIOS without success. The second time it worked like a champ. The
only drawback I have would be the size of the harddrive being 4GB, and
having the MacOS take up the first 1GB. On the positive side, the iMac
uses an ATA66 controller instead of the old SCSI so buying a drive is the
same as buying one for PC hardware. Also the memory upgrades for
the iMac are the same as the iBooks, which happen to be inexpensive
at this time, approximately $40 for a 256MB upgrade DO-SIMM.
