I read this article last night and started upgrading everything to the latest kernel so hopefully this will clear it up. Does RedHat 7.2 use the -ac kernel or is it the genuine linus kernel tree?
RedHat has a ton of patches that makes it neither really the -ac tree
nor the Linus tree. I believe AC has a hand in the patching process,
but has stated before that he's *not* the guy at RedHat who's
responsible for maintaining the kernel packages.
I don't use RedHat much so I can't say for sure, but my guess would be
that it starts with the Linus tree and merges a bunch of patches,
probably also some from AC.
It may also have nothing to do with the kernel - check if you have DMA
enabled on your hard drive (hdparm /dev/hda). If so, your hardware may
have DMA issues under heavy load.
There are a number of other possibilities as well.
