No inetd on this RedHat 7.1 box, but xinetd is running. The imapd program
wasn't present on my system either. Had to download it from the RedHat site,
then uncomment the line to start it in xinetd.conf. Thanks for at least
getting me on the right track.

Thanks Ronan. So how do I find out if inetd is even loaded on my system, and
if not, where do I get it?
Jeff-
inetd should probably be running on all Linux systems. It is pretty
standard. To make sure that it is running, type "ps ax | grep inetd".
If you get back no lines, or only a line that contains "grep inetd",
then it is NOT running, otherwise it is running.
