If you want "great literature" you should try UNIX Power Tools. It is the
premiere book on learning the "ways of UNIX".
Primarily, it's a collections of short articles on various tools tied
together with enough wit and humor to make the experience enjoyable. In
addition, it serves as a darned good reference on the tools of the trade.
No Linux-specific book comes close, so don't get into the habit of
focusing just on Linux.
