If you are looking for a good card to do this try the ATI wonder with Radeon
this is what my friend uses to do caps and
video edits. They work great. It has all the features you could ever want.
These go for around 160.00 to 180.00 usually can be found
at Best Buys. If they do not have it you can try to see if thompsons
www.tcwo.com or mb's www.mbk2000.com sells them. they are local
both are off of benjamin road near the airport.

Right now I have a Hauppauge Tv / Fm card it works good but not as good as
the ATI.
I also use a PInnacle Studio 10+ as well. How ever the Pinnacle uses a mjpeg
format which is not
the same as mpeg or mpg I have to use a proggie to convert the caps to Mpg
vcd format or use
Adobe Premier to cap using a huffy codec fro avi and then convert it as well
wich takes a while and
alot fo hard drive space.

For Video capture you need at least 500mhz or better recommended , 256 megs
of ram , a ATA 66 or 100 Hard drive
that is 7200 rpm. If you run less you will start to loose frames easily. How
ever I am right now using a AMd 450 with 384
megs of ram and a ata 66 with a 7,200 rpm Western Digital hard drive. works
ok but I jacked the ram up to compensate for the
processor speed.

Also try to keep at least 10 gigs available for space for the captures if
you are doing shows. However yet another problem you may
encounter is that some cap cards have a problem of capturing more then 2
gigs of data. There are some patches and updates that may help and some
software. I have researched alot of this stuff.

You can try www.vcdhelp.com or http://tivohack.sourceforge.net/ and this
site
http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=dba6d469f90d5d29e7d9
a7122bbe7637&forumid=8 all of which are excellent sites for checking out all
you need to know about this stuff. Also you may want to research tv cap
cards on maximum pc website they did a issue talking about these.

You also again can try usinging good ole google for searches as I often find
most of what I am looking for on there.

Ah before I go try this http://www.cadsoft.de/people/kls/vdr/index.htm this
also has steps on building your own dvr.

Enjoy see ya.
