I don't understand why two entities are following the same track on
this,,with exceptions. I just read the OpenOffice statement on the
differences between StarOffice and OpenOffice and one would wonder why we
would want OpenOffice as it appears to have less functionality.

Can someone clear all this up for me as I am attempting to create a working
desktop to replace the MS Desktops in our office.

They are going to release it, there is just a break between the beta and the
production release. I believe the release is due out in the early spring,
also the openoffice verision is still available.
