Older models worked great, newer models are something to avoid. They
tend to use proprietary chips for things like PCMCIA, IR, Video etc and
don't release the specs, particularly with their PCMCIA chipsets.
Sometimes you can get them to work just fine, sometimes kind of and
sometimes not at all. Virtually noone doing Linux laptop work (like the
PCMCIA project guys, the IR guys, the USB guys, etc) recommend buying
Toshiba.
