Hey Carson,
The Toshiba's usually have a high display failure.
They also have some pcmcia and ir problems if
my memory suits me. I was going to buy one of the
Portege , or Satellite but found out that they also have a very poor
design and start cracking along the base to the display
area.
You would be better off with a Compaq to a Toshiba.
The Persarios are nice and usually have no problem installing
S.u.S.E. 7.1 or 7.2 , Redhat 7.1 , Mandrake 8.0 or 8.1
on my XL1200 model 111. It has been replaced by much
newer model now but they do work quiet well and I got a extra batter
for mine right at Best buys they carry them :).
If you want to go for a higher end Compaq the Armada's are nice.
Also like Robin Miller mentioned the HP's are nice too.
Also up to 2 months ago it was offered from Dell for getting Redhat
I guess they again changed that because one of my best friends Purchased
a Inspirion the model next to the 8100 and he like's it and it is a nice
unit.
Just check a few sites out before you buy a Laptop , One the company that
makes
the Distro that you want, Two http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/ this site
usually give ton's
of information on the model and distro's compatibility as well.
Get a reliable brand, and one that accessories are easy to get and that you
can find
places authorized to service them! Unless like Dell they come to you!
Bill Preece.
