Nope, IBM DB2 is IBM's own database which they have had for some time
and ported to Linux in one of those classic fait accompli (sp) things
where the DB2 management said, "We should think about porting to Linux,
since that's the hot new thing" and the engineer said, "Uhh, err, well,
we engineers have had DB2 running on Linux in the back room for a few
months now." Badda bing badda boom, as they say.

Informix was acquired by IBM about a year ago because their market share
had dropped into negative values and IBM picked up a quite good set of
db functionality for a steal. Any interesting and new Informix
technologies will probably start showing up in DB2 in the next couple of
releases.

IBM is using "DB2 on Linux" as a marketing phrase. I have the "IBM DB2
Universal Developer's Edition" boxed set sitting on my desk at this very
moment. There are literally about 200+ CDs in it. Most are for NT, AIX
and Solaris. A very few contain Linux code. The only DB2-related code
that IBM actually has working, as far as I can tell, on Linux is the DB2
database itself and MQ Series. The rest of the tools (of which there
are 1.. 2.. 3.. many, most of which I don't even know what they are or
do past what the CD label says) do not seem to have Linux versions
available.

I've already browbeat our IBM rep by telling them to stop yanking our
[deleted] by telling us they officially support and promote DB2 on Linux
if they're not going to do it the whole nine yards by providing the
entire feature set that is available on other platforms.
