Sorry but that is not true about a modem driver making it a winmodem.
In most all versions of Windows needs a driver even for a Usr Sportster or
standard ISA modem however you can choose to set up standard AT DT
setting so it can use it!

Again this is for every modem when using Windows version 3.1 - XP ! and all
in between because it is a Microsoft thing. Don't ask me why.

How ever in the case of this delima Most laptops use Lucent or Coxant Modems
which
yes they are a winmodem how ever NT has not been supported in over 2 years
for most new devices.

He should try using a PCMCIA as mentioned or let them know hey they are SOL
if they stick to WINDOWS XX.
