RESOLVED
Hallelujah! Thanks to everyone for all the help.

Here's what I did:
mv /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf2 (it was a symlink to
/tmp/resolv.conf, which didn't exist???)
touch /etc/resolv.conf

I rebooted cause I'm a whimp, but I suppose you could ifdown eth0;
ifup eth0 or stop and start the dhcp client daemon.
