Honestly, I would install Debian.
RedHat has lots of stuff it likes to install, even for a base distro. A
base Debian distro is well under 100MB; I believe it's somewhere around
50MB. It's very stripped down to only the stuff necessary to have a box
working and able to compile new apps (and you can even remove the
compiler and whatnot if you wanted and that saves even more space).
If you absolutely must use RedHat, and a perfectly good reason is just
because you're more familiar with it, PARTICULARLY for a firewall where
you have to know what's going on, then you'll just have to go package by
package and if it's not something necessary, axe it.
