Nope! internal ip trafic is not routed to the external gateway address, and then back in because of the subnet mask. the router understands not to use any forwarding rules on intra-site trafic.
I did how ever experience the same problem on Red Hat, even with my windows boxes using ws_ftp. I was able to fix the problem by checking ftpusers and ftpaccess in the /etc folder, and changing the settings on my client to use passive transfers.

Subject: [SLUG] FTP and the Lynksys router
Ok, probably a simple question:
I currently have simple network set up that looks like this:
Tower**************|
(SuSE 7.3)>>>>>>>>>|
*******************|>>>(Connected to)>>Lynksys Router-->(Internet)
Laptop*************|
(Drake 8.1)>>>>>>>>|
(Hope that was understandable)
I'm trying to ftp into my tower from my laptop (so I can drop off some
stuff - switching the system over to SuSE 8.0 for a whirl). My tower
currently has FTP open but I still can't get through to it from the
laptop. I can ping, telnet, ssh, scp, blah blah blah. Nevertheless, I
can't get through to the tower. This is what gFTP outputs:
Looking up 192.168.1.101
Trying 192.168.1.101:21
Connected to 192.168.1.101:21
<foot note> after about 5 seconds</foot note>
Disconnecting from site 192.168.1.101
Waiting 30 seconds until trying to connect again
Is the router stopping this by any chance? Is there something inherently
wrong with my Drake system? Will Rocky be able to get to Bullwinkle in
time to save him from the dastardly Boris and Natasha?
Thanks,
Gnorb
