You only need to load SAMBA if you want to use Microsoft Networking to
connect to printers or drives on your Linux box (or if you want to make
Linux a WINS server). If what you want is Internet access (no printer
sharing, no drive sharing, no WINS), then there is no reason to load
SAMBA. Even if you do want those things, it is better to get your LAN
working first, your Internet Masquerading working second, and your SAMBA
working last.
