You'll also notice that they require someone with a couple years of
experience. They only prefer a certification.
Hmm... If I was a hiring manager and I had two resume's in front of me.
Each had two years work experience but one had a linux certification. I
would give a point to the certification. By the same token, if I had a
resume with a certification but no experience, that person would not get
a interview.
I recently completed the RHCE. I've worked with Linux for the last 5
years, but I knew my expertise has narrow. I only knew what I needed to
know to do my job. The RHCE allowed me to round out my skills a little,
and forced me to learn stuff that I don't use on a day to day basis.
Everyone I took the test with was a Unix professional and their main
purpose was to help them in their current jobs. The recognition of
being a RHCE was very secondary.
