Hey all. I got this question as a result of my review on NewsForge for
SuSE 8.0. I Don't quite know how to answer it - namely becuase I've
never tried to even work with it - but I thought some of you might.

(P.S. Now that he's asking that question, it has raised my own
curiosity. Cool!)

I've been a SuSE user since 6.3 and was eagerly anticipating getting 8.0
when
I read your review on NewsForge. I noted that you had an ATI All-In-Wonder
card. Cool! Looks like I could move my ATI AIW (128 Pro PCI 16M) out of my
Windows box and into my Linux box.

Well, I did the card swap and install this past weekend. SuSE is up and
running OK, X works fine, but I can't get any video apps to run. Neither
xawtv nor kwintv can find a video device:

    :~> xawtv
    This is xawtv-3.72, running on Linux/i686 (2.4.18-4GB)
    can't open /dev/video0: No such device
    v4l-conf had some trouble, trying to continue anyway
    v4l: open /dev/video0: No such device
    v4l2: open /dev/video0: No such device
    no video grabber device available

    :~> kwintv
    Warning: main: Can't load program-file /home/dhb/.kwintvrc/default.ch!
    can't open /dev/video: No such device
    Warning: kwintv: kv4lsetup had some trouble, trying to continue anyway.

    Fatal: v4lx: Error opening v4lx device /dev/video: No such device in
    ::v4lxif

However, the devices appear to be there:

    :~> ll /dev/vid*
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 May 12 19:28 /dev/video ->
video0
    crw-rw-rw- 1 dhb users 81, 0 Mar 23 13:49 /dev/video0
    crw------- 1 dhb users 81, 1 Mar 23 13:49 /dev/video1
    crw-rw---- 1 root root 172, 0 Mar 23 13:50 /dev/video1394
    crw------- 1 dhb users 81, 2 Mar 23 13:49 /dev/video2
    crw------- 1 dhb users 81, 3 Mar 23 13:49 /dev/video3

>From dmesg, it looks like the drivers are loaded ok:

    i2c-core.o: i2c core module version 2.6.2 (20011118)
    i2c-algo-bit.o: i2c bit algorithm module version 2.6.2 (20011118)
    bttv: driver version 0.7.83 loaded
    bttv: using 2 buffers with 2080k (4160k total) for capture
    bttv: Host bridge is PCI device 1106:0305
    bttv: Host bridge is PCI device 1106:3057

Here are the settings from modules.conf:

    options bttv card=63 tuner=17
    post-install bttv /sbin/modprobe "-k" tuner;
    alias char-major-81 videodev
    # YaST2 configured TV card
    # tv.nouniqkey0:ATI TV-Wonder
    alias char-major-81-0 bttv

I assume I have something misconfigured.

Is video working for you? If so, got any hints for what I need to tweak?

Thanks for any clues you can send me.
