Most of the late model ATI Radeon cards are supported well under XFree4
due to their specs being openly available to developers. Coupled with
DRI kernel/XFree4 support, you can also get decent hardware 3D support
for a reasonable price.

IIRC, some of the newest Radeon cards will require XFree 4.2.
