The funniest thing happened yesterday. I was visiting a customer who has a
datacenter that they are not using. Raised floor, Fiber, AC, etc. It's
near the airport, and they are working with my company to turn that into a
hosting / ISP / Co-Location facility. If we're interested in building it, I
could negotiate a very reasonable rate for the SLUG population to use it for
our ISP. The income generated by the other customers of the space will help
offset the cost of the equipment, bandwidth, etc.
If we have a SERIOUS group of people who might be interested in building our
own ISP and who would like to work with us as we design it, fill it with
equipment, and get it running, please email me offline at
david@crbtechnologies.com.
We are in negotiations at this point, but both companies are in agreement
where we want this to go, and if it can benefit SLUG somehow, that would be
so much the better.
