A little late getting in on this thread, but I just got the email yesterday
from SuSE. They are offering an update version of 8.1 . It looks like it is
just missing some manuals. Does anyone know what is required to use this
update? I don't see any info (about requirements other than hardware) on the
SuSE website. Linux Central is offering the update version and the only
requirements mentioned there are hardware also.
I know that in the past it has not been possible to pull off an update since
about version 7.4 . Last time I couldn't even save my /home partition because
the reiserfs file system had apparently changed enough to cause problems.
I sent a reply to the email address in the suse-announce mail. I'll see if I
can get a response. I don't see anyone "wowing" over 8.1 on the list,
although I have seen a review somwhere that thought it was a significant
upgrade from 8.0
