[SLUG] hostname won't stick

I'm using RH7.1.

I type at the shell prompt:
hostname mynewhostname
ypdomainname mynewhostname

/etc/hosts has:
127.0.0.1 mynewhostname

Why is it when I reboot, I lose the mynewhostname name? It does back
to localhost.local.
