Debian for a newbie? Only if you enjoy giving yourself rootcannals on a
regular basis.
As for SuSE, Red Hat or Mandrake, just roll some dice. You'll find
simply different ways of doing the same thing in each. Give something
like Lycoris a try, if you don't plan to hack the box for fun and just
want to use it. SuSE, RH and Drake all allow for some tweaking for fun
and profit, if you really want to do it.
