I am also using HP LaserJet IIP's (use 2 of them) and I use
the ljet2p driver which works just fine
I would suggest just checking for the latest available
driver(drivers) for your specific printer, then try them
each and see which one works best.
This doesnt seem to be the direct answer and the thread
seems to be changing but I still say try different drivers.
As for the IIP there are like 5 diff drivers that I know of
but on my setup they all seem to work as well.
Anyone else out there using HP IIP's we ought to get
together and share info. I have some documentation and have
a good source for parts--even have a spare here to use for
parts.
There is a company I ordered parts from that was more than
reasnoable and the parts came with a video cd on how to
disassemble and re-assemble the laser.
In any case I can offer some help with HP IIPs if anyone
needs it, as for the basic printing slow I cant offer much
more than try different drivers---sorry

I have an old HP LaserJet Series II, for which there are
several drivers. The "default" one that apsfilter suggests
prints quickly, but takes a long time between prints. The
STP driver takes a long time to print at all. There was
another that I can't remember that would work as desired
but hang occasionally for no reason I could ascertain.
