I've been looking into ways to resize a partition while the system is
fully online.
Here's what I do:
1: I have a Compaq DL380G2 with four 72.8GB drives setup as a raid 5 on
redhat Linux 8.0. The partition is mounted as a reiserfs at
/dev/cciss/c0d1p1 with data in it.
2: I add another 72.8GB drive while the system is running.
3: Run the Compaq Web based Array utilies and expand the Array and
logical drive while the system is running.
4: Fdisk /dev/cciss/c0d1 shows the space before the expansion.
5: Reboot
6: Fdisk now shows the expanded space.
7: Then I delete the parition in fdisk.
8: Recreate it taking care to use the same start cylinder.
9: Mount the parition.
10: Use resize_reiserfs to expand the partition to the full size.
This works for me but I would like to get the system to recognize the
addition space without rebooting. I'm sure if I unloaded the cciss.o
module then that would work but my root parition is mounted on another
drive using the cciss module. Any ideas?
