I will assume the program was programmed using the AWT
api and you wish to update it to use the SWING api.
These api's are just the GUI portion of Java so to
answer your question: Firstly, standard java any
version will run on MS winders whatever(98,nt,2000,xp)
with one caveat.. if MS J+ VM will not run without
error you need to disable it and install IBM or SUN's
VM wich is totally standard. Secondly, updating a
Java program from 1.1,1.2 AWT to 1.3,1.4 SWING is a
rewrite or port of the application not a configuration
issue. There are many advantages to SWING not the
least of which is that it is many times faster than
AWT and it provides a much cleaner and intuitive
interface for you programs.
